After surgery or trauma to the upper extremity joints, devices that immobilize, compress, and support the joint help the joint to heal. These orthoses are part of the continuum of care - products which are used during the rehab process to ensure the best possible outcomes.

OrthoRehab has a wide selection of upper extremity orthoses and we have listed a few of them here with their description and use.

  Clavicle Strap
Designed to offer medium support for clavicle fractures, and acromioclavicular problems in addition to postural dysfunction.  Most Clavicle Straps use a figure of eight design to restrain abduction.  Canvas straps with hook and loop closures allow for an adjustable fit,  breathable comfort and washing.

  Shoulder Orthosis
Designed to offer greater support for clavicle fractures, and acromio/clavicular problems in addition to postural dysfunction.   A Shoulder Orthosis provides upward pressure on the forearm/elbow for better alignment of the glenohumeral joint for functional healing of the capsular and ligamentous structures of the shoulder.

  Shoulder Immobilizer
After Rotator Cuff surgery or other procedures, a Shoulder Immobilizer for the glenohumeral joint (shoulder) uses a Figure of eight design abduction restrainer, with a sling and swathe to keep the joint from further injury as it is healing.  The swathe component readily attaches to the desired position of the sling & maintains GH (shoulder) joint in an internally rotated position.  Easily adjustable and washable.

  Arm Sling
Made from a durable and breathable material with a pouch and strap to maintain elbow, wrist and forearm in neutral positions.  Offering less support than an immobilizer, an Arm Sling can be used to support stabilized (casted) fractures, shoulder sprains and injuries to the arm, wrist or hand.

  Post-Operative Elbow Brace
A Post-Op Range of Motion (ROM) brace is designed to provide a controlled range of motion after surgery.  The hinge has ROM settings in specific degree increments and is adjustable. This brace is usually adjusted to fit the patient with hook and loop straps.  As the patient progresses through the healing process, the ROM allowed by the brace is increased, per the doctor or therapist’s defined protocol.

Elbow Orthoses, Tennis Orthosis, Elbow Sleeve

Neoprene Elbow Sleeve is a light weight support for tendonitis, bursitis and arthritis of the elbow.  Elastic and washable, the sleeve will anatomically contour to the elbow for mild compression and warmth.

Tennis Elbow Orthosis for medial and lateral epicondylitis.   The counterforce straps decrease the tensile loading of the tendinous attachments to the medial and lateral epicondyle helping the patient to heal with out further added stresses.

  Wrist/Forearm Splints
Wrist & Forearm Splints with and with out abducted thumb offer wrist extension control and come in dozens of configurations.  Most splints are adjustable and non-molded, with loop-lock closure for comfort and fit.  Splints for the wrist/forearm are ideal for strains and sprains of the wrist, thumb and scaphoid fractures, and ligament injuries to the 1st MCP joint.
A splint encourages patient compliance with a comfortable fit that does not extend above the distal palmar crease, allowing finger motion while adding compression and restricting unwanted movement.

  Humeral Fracture Brace
Humeral Fracture Brace is a prefabricated brace for fractures of the humerus, in extended and regular lengths.
After acute pain and swelling have subsided, fracture bracing is an ideal application to assist early and proper healing. These braces allow for movement of muscles surrounding the fracture site. They are durable, lightweight, adjustable, and easy to apply and remove for proper hygiene.
